The ice has finally be installed and is ready to go for the season. The year marks the 35th seaon that the Essex Skating Facility has been open to the public. Day 1 was back on Jan. 20th, 1973
The end of September is here and the rink season is just about to get under way in Essex... The compressors were started on the 24th. Projects inside are starting to be completed... The new lights are BRIGHT and will be a welcome change. The Coin-op controllers are the new heaters are set for $1.oo for 30 mins, have not been installed yet, but soon. The new bleachers arrive onsite the first week of October should be all set for Opening day
Rink progress has been a little slow over the last month. Most of the progress attention has been put onto the school side of things. Rubber flooring has been going down slowly over the last few weeks as rooms become available, and locker room lighting has been hooked up to motion sensors now! The equipment for the Skate sharpening room has arrived, New Sharpener, work bench with riviting supplys, skate book stretcher, skate boot warmer.
The end of July is hear and quite a bit has happened in the last few weeks. New exterior walls have been constructed and brick added to the exterior. The locker rooms have been painted and rubber flooring was beginning to be laid down this week. The HS Boys Locker room has been gutted and is under going a makeover as well.

Just a few news tidbits for people to know!
New Heaters have been installed for the bleacher areas..They are going to be coin-operatored, so it is a self-service setup
Bleachers are going to be replaced with all new. They will not be installed until sometime in November. So, the rink will be bleacher-less for the first 5 weeks of operation, bring a chair or lean up on the glass!
The cost for an hour of ice has increased to $150 an hour over the rate of $135 last year
Here are some shots from June 21st and June 26st. The staging has been removed to reveal the new exterior of the addition
On Friday, June 8th, 2007.. The pouring of the concrete on the Rink floor took place. The frist concrete came out of the trucks around 7:30 am and went non-stop until about 1:30 pm. The 6 hour pour used about ~230 yards of concrete in pouring the 5 inch slab. Each concrete truck holds 10 yards, so there was a bit of action at the pump truck.
